Educational Requirements
According to the South Dakota Department of Education:
This program will be closing effective July 1, 2024. We recommend the student enrolls in the new MAT: Secondary Education cognate specific program.
The state of South Dakota does NOT offer the following endorsements.

Biology: Secondary Advance Biology and Secondary Intermediate Science

Business: Business Management and Administration Career Cluster and Business Marketing and Management Career Pathway.

Chemistry: Secondary Chemistry

Computer Science: Secondary Computer Science

English: English Language Arts (5-8), Secondary Advanced Literature, Secondary Advanced Composition/Grammar and Secondary Intermediate English Language Arts

Health and P.E.: Health & Physical Education PK-12 as two separate endorsements.

Mathematics: (5-8), Secondary Intermediate Math and Secondary Advanced Mathematics.

Additional Requirements (During Degree Program)
- Students will be required to complete the South Dakota Indian Studies course.
Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)
- Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu.
- Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
- Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
- After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a South Dakota license through reciprocity.
Reciprocity
Eligibility for Reciprocity Based on Completion of Approved Educator Program:
- Received a teacher, administrator, or educator specialist certificate in another state.
- Must complete full state-certification. May not be a temporary, emergency, substitute, or provisional certificate.
- Completed a successful student teaching, internship, or field experience.
- Provide verification from the licensing state that there are no disciplinary actions or ethics violations.
