MAT- – Montana

Educational Requirements

According to the Montana Department of Education:

The state of Montana offers the following endorsements.

  • Family and Consumer Sciences (5-12)

  • Physics Education: Earth Science (5-12)
  • Social Studies (5-12)

Additional Requirements (During Degree Program)

  1. Students will be required to complete and provide verification of the free, online course: An Introduction to Indian Education for All in Montana. 
  2. Students will need to pass state specific Praxis Exams OR pass edTPA OR have a 3.0 GPA for Montana licensure. 

Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)

  1. Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu.
  2. Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
  3. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure. 
  4. After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a Montana license through reciprocity. 

Reciprocity

Montana does not have reciprocity with any state for teacher licensure. To get a Montana teaching license you will need to submit an application. The application will require official transcripts, a fingerprint background check, a copy of your current out of state license, a university recommendation (which verifies you have completed a teacher preparation program, including student teaching and the endorsements you qualify for), a licensure fee, along with all other forms on the application.
