MAT- – District Of Columbia

Educational Requirements

According to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education:

  • This program will be closing effective July 1, 2024. We recommend the student enrolls in the new MAT: Secondary Education cognate specific program

The District of Columbia does NOT offer the following endorsements.

  • Physics Education: Earth Science
  • Engineering

The District of Columbia offers the following endorsements.

  • Biology  (7-12)
  • Business  (7-12)
  • Chemistry  (7-12)
  • Computer Science  (7-12)
  • English  (7-12)
  • Family and Consumer Science:  Home Economics  (7-12)
  • Health & Physical Education  (PreK – 12)
  • Mathematics  (7-12)
  • Music: Vocal (PK-12)
  • Music: Instrumental (PK-12)
  • Physics  (7-12)
  • Spanish   (PreK – 12)
  • Social Studies  (7-12)
  • TESL (PK-12)
  • Theatre and Drama (PK-12)
  • Visual Arts (PK-12)

Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)

  1. Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu. 
  2. Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
  3. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
  4. After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a District of Columbia license through reciprocity.

Reciprocity

Applicants for a District of Columbia educator credential who hold an active full credential or license issued in another US state or territory may qualify for issuance of a DC credential based upon reciprocity. Reciprocity may only be applied during the applicant’s first application for a DC educator credential. Any subsequent issuances of DC educator credentials must be based upon satisfactory completion of District of Columbia-specific requirements.
