Educational Requirements
According to the Arkansas Department of Education:
This program will be closing effective July 1, 2024. We recommend the student enrolls in the new MAT: Secondary Education cognate specific program.

• English Language Arts: Secondary (7-12)

• Health & Phys Ed (K-12)
• Math: Secondary Math (7-12)
• Music: Voice (K-12)
• Music: Instrumental (K-12)
• Physics: Physics (7-12) and Physics/Mathematics (7-12)
• Physics Education: Earth Science (7-12)
• Spanish (K-12)
• Social Studies: Secondary (7-12)
• TESL: English for Speakers of Other Languages (K-12)
• Theater Arts: Drama (7-12) and Drama/Speech (K-12)
• Visual Arts: Art (K-12)
Additional Requirements (During Degree Program)
- Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Middle Childhood Social Studies and Secondary Social Studies are required to take Arkansas History OR a 45-clock hour professional development course through Arkansas IDEAS.
- Students will be required to take the free 14 clock hour Awareness Level of Reading Course through IDEAS online.
Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)
- Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu.
- Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
- After obtaining a Virginia license and completing additional training and coursework students can then apply for an Arkansas license through reciprocity.
Reciprocity
Reciprocity means the recognition of a teaching license from another state or country based on the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) licensure rules and/or the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement for Educator Licensure.
Licensure in another state or country does not mean licensure in Arkansas will automatically be granted. The type of license must be evaluated. Ancillary requirements may apply.
