Family Nurse Practitioner – Pennsylvania
Liberty University and the School of Nursing meet all requirements for enrollment of Pennsylvania students in this program. All students are required to have a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse License prior to enrollment.
Pennsylvania State License Requirements:
a. RN License.
i. You must maintain a current, unencumbered RN license for any Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program.
ii. Pennsylvania is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administration, therefore, to participate in practicum in the state of Pennsylvania, the student must hold an active Pennsylvania or multi-state RN license.
iii. Any change in licensure status must be reported to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator
b. APRN License Application Requirements
i. Education
1. Applicants for certification shall have completed an accredited, Board-approved master’s or post-master’s nurse practitioner program, or other Board-approved program that awarded an advanced degree, or a course of study considered by the Board to be equivalent to that required for certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the time the course was completed. Official transcripts must be submitted to the PA BON by the educational institution. To request an official transcript, you may reach out to the Registrar’s office.
2. To apply for Prescriptive Authority in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, The Board of Nursing requires no less than forty-five contact hours in advanced pharmacology, which must be completed no longer than five years before applying for licensure. The 45 hours in Advanced Pharmacology must include 2 hours of education in pain management or the identification of addiction and 2 hours of education in the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids. Liberty University meets this advanced pharmacology requirement. 3. In demonstration of fulfillment of the Advanced Pharmacology requirements, the applicant and educational institution will need to complete: 1) “Verification of Nurse Practitioner Program” form, 2) “Verification of Advanced Pharmacology” form, and 3) “Verification of Opioid Education” form. Students should complete the top portion of each form, then send all three forms for completion by LUSON, to the Liberty University School of Nursing Online Student Support Coordinator.
ii. Certification
This program meets requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification examinations.
iii. Requirements for Licensure Beyond Education Program
An applicant seeking initial certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania shall have completed at least 3 continuing education hours of approved training in child abuse recognition and reporting, in accordance with 21.508a, as a condition of certification
