Gifted Education – South Dakota
Educational Requirements
According to the South Dakota Department of Education:
The state of South Dakota offers the following endorsements.

South Dakota offers Elementary and Secondary Gifted Education.
Candidates must take and pass the Praxis ETS Test 5358 Gifted Education. Candidates licensed in elementary education must take and pass the ETS Praxis test 5622 or 5625 Principles of Learning and Teaching. No program or coursework is required.
Additional Requirements (During Degree Program)
- Students will be required to complete the South Dakota Indian Studies course.
Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)
- Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu.
- Students will need to obtain their Virginia license first to qualify for reciprocity.
- Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to apply for Virginia licensure.
- After obtaining a Virginia license students can then apply for a South Dakota license through reciprocity.
Reciprocity
Eligibility for Reciprocity Based on Completion of Approved Educator Program:
- Received a teacher, administrator, or educator specialist certificate in another state.
- Must complete full state-certification. May not be a temporary, emergency, substitute, or provisional certificate.
- Completed a successful student teaching, internship, or field experience.
- Provide verification from the licensing state that there are no disciplinary actions or ethics violations.
