Marriage & Family Therapy – North Dakota
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
North Dakota requires that applicants for this licensure have COAMFTE-aligned additional Marriage and Family Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Human Development classes that Liberty University does not offer.
North Dakota requires a master’s or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy including the following:
- Nine (9) semester hours in human development
- Six (6) semester hours in marital and family studies
- Twelve (12) semester hours in marital and family therapy
- Three (3) semester hours in research
- Three (3) semester hours in professional studies
- Courses which include content on issues of diversity (race, gender, sexual orientation, spirituality, class, etc.)
- A clinical practicum in marriage and family therapy of at least 500 hours or 12 months/nine semester hours of clinical client contact with individuals, couples, and families for the purpose of assessment and intervention. Of the 500 hours, no more than 250 hours may be with individuals. This clinical experience must be supervised on site or at the academic institution by a licensed family therapist or an American Association for Marriage and Family approved supervisor.
