Marriage & Family Therapy – California
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
California requires that applicants for this licensure have COAMFTE-aligned additional Marriage and Family Studies, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Human Development classes that Liberty University does not offer, and a master’s degree with a minimum of 60-semester credits.
Course Requirements
The master’s degree should have 12-semester units in areas of marriage, family, and child counseling, and marital and family systems approach to treatment.
Practicum/Internship Requirements
The master’s degree must include a minimum of 6-semester credits of practicum/internship, with 150 hours face-to-face experience counseling individuals, couples, families, or groups, and an additional 75 hours of face-to-face counseling or client advocacy.
