Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP) – West Virginia
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
West Virginia requires that applicants for this licensure have a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of graduate course work inclusive of a master’s or doctoral degree in counseling with a minimum of three (3) semester hours in each of the following areas:
- Counseling theories
- Counseling techniques
- Human growth and development
- Social and cultural foundations
- Individual appraisal
- Professional responsibilities
- Principles of etiology
- Addictions counseling
- Group dynamics
- Lifestyle and career development
- Marriage and family counseling
- Research and evaluation
- Supervised practicum
- Supervised internship
- 1 elective in any of the following: human sexuality, psychopharmacology, crisis intervention, biological basis of behavior, counseling special populations, rehabilitation counseling, or other advance course as outlined in WV code 6.1b.
Additional Requirements
Students must ensure they meet the elective requirements.
