Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP) – Missouri

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

For applicants that entered a program before August 28, 2023, Missouri requires that applicants for this licensure have a master’s degree with a major in counseling that consists of at least forty-eight (48) semester hours or seventy-two (72) quarter hours.

For applicants that entered a program on or after August 28, 2023, Missouri requires that applicants for this licensure have a graduate degree at the master’s, specialist, or doctoral level that consists of a course of study with a major in counseling from an acceptable educational institution. The program will need to consist of 60 semester or equivalent quarter hours. The degree must teach counseling principles, theories, techniques, and counseling interventions. If a degree is less than 60 semester hours an applicant can propose a plan to complete the required courses to meet the educational requirement.

Missouri’s Committee for Professional Counselors confirm that CACREP-accredited programs are not required to follow the asynchronous learning guidelines set for non-CACREP programs.
