Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP) – Florida

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)

Florida requires that applicants for this licensure have (Option 1) a master’s degree or higher from a CACREP accredited mental health counseling program that includes 60 semester hours, a course in human sexuality, and a course in substance abuse, or (Option 2) a master’s degree or higher from a program related to mental health counseling from an accredited institution that includes 60 semester hours, 12 specific course content areas, and 700 hours of a supervised practicum, internship, or field experience.

*Beginning July 1, 2025, an applicant must have a master’s degree from a program that is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC), or an equivalent accrediting body which consists of at least 60 semester hours or 80 quarter hours to apply for licensure.
