Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP) – Arizona

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Arizona requires that applicants for licensure have a master’s or higher degree with a major emphasis in counseling from

  • A program accredited by CACREP or CORE that consists of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter credit hours, including a supervised counseling practicum as prescribed under subsection (E), or
  • An educational program previously approved by the Board under A.R.S. § 32-3253(A)(14) that consists of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter credit hours, including a supervised counseling practicum as prescribed under subsection (E), or
  • A program from a regionally accredited college or university that consists of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter credit hours, meets the requirements specified in subsections (C) and (D), and includes a supervised counseling practicum as prescribed under subsection (E).

Additional Requirements

For LAC (Licensed Associate Counselor) level, Arizona requires 700 hours for practicum with 240 hours direct client contact. Students must ensure they meet these practicum requirements.

To move to the full LPC, 3,200 hours of supervised work experience are needed, with 1,600 of those being direct client contact.
