Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Alaska requires applicants for this licensure have a master’s in counseling or related field, with 60 credit hours.
Required Coursework, at least 8 of the following subject areas:
- Helping relationships, including counseling theory and practice
- Human growth and development
- Lifestyle and career development
- Group dynamics, processes, counselling, and consulting
- Assessment, appraisal, and testing of individuals
- Social and cultural foundation, including multicultural issues
- Principles of etiology, diagnosis, treatment planning and prevention of mental and emotional disorders and dysfunctional behavior
- Marriage and family counseling and therapy
- Research and evaluation
- Professional counseling orientation and ethics
