Educational Requirements

According to the Illinois Department of Education:

The state of Illinois offers the following endorsements as well as the subsequent teaching endorsements.

Illinois offers Gifted Teacher (PK-12). 

Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)

1. Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu.
2. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to add the Gifted Education endorsement to the Virginia license. 
3. After obtaining a Virginia license with the Gifted Education Add-On, students can then apply for an Illinois license through reciprocity. 
4. Effective January 1, 2026 candidates will be required to successfully pass the applicable Illinois content area test(s).

Reciprocity

If you hold a valid license from another state that allows you to serve as a teacher, school support personnel, or administrator in that state’s public schools, you can transfer your license to Illinois and receive a professional educator license endorsed in a comparable area. If you have not obtained an out-of-state license, you can still qualify for a professional educator license by meeting additional requirements.
