Curriculum & Instruction: Early Childhood Education – South Dakota

Educational Requirements

According to the South Dakota Department of Education:

The state of South Dakota offers the following endorsements.

• South Dakota offers Early Childhood (Birth to Grade 3). 

Additional Requirements (During Degree Program)

1. Students will be required to complete the South Dakota Indian Studies course. 

Additional Requirements (After Degree Conferral)

1. Please submit all licensure documents (located on the Gate 4 Checklist) to gate4@liberty.edu. 
2. Gate 4 will complete a College Verification Form which will be used to add on the Early Childhood Education endorsement to Virginia licensure.
3. After obtaining a Virginia license with the Early Childhood Education Add-On,  students can then apply for a South Dakota license through reciprocity.

Reciprocity

Eligibility for Reciprocity Based on Completion of Approved Educator Program:

• Received a teacher, administrator, or educator specialist certificate in another state.
• Must complete full state-certification. May not be a temporary, emergency, substitute, or provisional certificate.
• Completed a successful student teaching, internship, or field experience.
• Provide verification from the licensing state that there are no disciplinary actions or ethics violations.
