Advanced Standing Master of Social Work: Individual & Family Clinical – Wisconsin

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Wisconsin* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Certified Social Worker (CSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.

Certified Advanced Practice Social Worker (CAPSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional requirements may apply.

Certified Independent Social Worker (CISW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in social work under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or a certified independent social worker (CISW). This must be concurrent with a minimum rate of one (1) hour of direct supervision per week.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: The candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate [supervised] experience in clinical social work, including at least 1,000 hours of direct client contact, of which 600 hours must be in DSM diagnosis and treatment of individuals, under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), a licensed psychologist, or a licensed psychiatrist. This must be concurrent with a minimum rate of one (1) hour of direct clinical supervision per week.
