Advanced Standing Master of Social Work: Individual & Family Clinical – Texas

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in Texas* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional Requirements
  • Completed the Council’s jurisprudence examination.

Licensed Master Social Worker – Advanced Practitioner (LMSW-AP)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in social work under the supervision of a Council approved supervisor. This must be concurrent with a minimum of 100 hours of direct supervision.
• Additional Requirements
  • Must hold a current, active LMSW license.
  • Completed the Council’s jurisprudence examination.

Licensed Master Social Worker – Independent Practice Recognition (LMSW-IPR)

• Exam Requirement: No exam required.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in social work under the supervision of a licensed master social worker recognized for independent non-clinical practice (LMSW-IPR), a licensed master social worker – advanced practitioner (LMSW-AP), or a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). This must be concurrent with a minimum of 100 hours of direct supervision.
• Additional Requirements
  • Must hold a current, active LMSW license.
  • Completed the Council’s jurisprudence examination.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than 24 months but no more than 48 months, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate supervised experience in clinical social work under the supervision of a Council approved supervisor. This must be concurrent with a minimum of 100 hours of direct clinical supervision.
• Additional Requirements
  • Must hold a current, active LMSW license.
  • Completed the Council’s jurisprudence examination.
