Advanced Standing Master of Social Work: Individual & Family Clinical – South Carolina

LU’s MSW program offers all the courses and internships necessary to meet education requirements for licensure in South Carolina* for any of the following credentials. Students are encouraged to meet with their gate advisor by contacting msw@liberty.edu for course selection and sequencing information to ensure they will meet the requirements for their specific license of choice.

Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: No postgraduate supervised experience required before licensure.
• Additional requirements may apply.

Licensed Independent Social Worker – Advanced Generalist Practice (LISW-AP)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years but no more than four (4) years, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate experience in social work under the supervision of a licensed independent social worker – advanced practice (LISW-AP). This must be concurrent with a minimum of 100 hours of direct advanced practice supervision.
• Additional Requirements
  • Obtained fifteen (15) academic contact hours OR twenty (20) continuing education contact hours in professional ethics during the course of the professional supervision period; OR completed a board sponsored specialty course in professional ethics.

Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice (LISW-CP)

• Exam Requirement: The candidate must pass an ASWB exam for the appropriate licensure level.
• Postgraduate Supervised Experience Requirement: In a period of no less than two (2) years but no more than four (4) years, the candidate must have completed at least 3,000 hours of postgraduate experience in clinical social work under the supervision of a licensed independent social worker – clinical practice (LISW-CP). This must be concurrent with a minimum of 100 hours of direct advanced practice supervision.
