Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC)

Wisconsin requires that applicants for this licensure have 360 hours of substance use disorder specialized education through a postsecondary institution or a department-approved education program.

Course Requirements

The 360 hours shall be in all of the following

• Sixty hours in assessment training
• Sixty hours in counseling training
• Sixty hours in case management
• Sixty hours in patient education
• Sixty hours in professional responsibility
• Six hours in boundaries and ethics
• Fifty-four hours in electives in any of the subjects above
