Addiction Counseling – District Of Columbia

Addiction Counselor II (CACII)

The District of Columbia requires applicants for this licensure to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a health or human services field.

Required Coursework

  • Understanding the dynamics of human behavior and family systems
  • Signs and Symptoms of Substance Abuse
  • Recovery process, stages of change, relapse prevention, treatment approaches, group dynamics and other adjunctive treatment recovery support groups, motivation interviewing, and models and theories of addiction
  • Ethics, Rules, and Regulations
  • Professional Identify in the provision of substance abuse services behavior
  • Crisis intervention
  • Substance Abuse counseling treatment, planning and research
  • Counseling skills for individual and group, motivation interviewing
  • Cultural factors and competencies in addiction
  • Co-occurring disorders in interdisciplinary treatment
  • Diagnostic and screening criteria in addictions
  • Psychopharmacology resources in treatment of addictions

Additional Requirements

Applicants must take both CRIS 606 Acute Stress, Grief and Trauma and ADCN 606 Pharmacology of Addiction and Recovery.
