Addiction Counselor II (CACII)
The District of Columbia requires applicants for this licensure to have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a health or human services field.
Required Coursework
- Understanding the dynamics of human behavior and family systems
- Signs and Symptoms of Substance Abuse
- Recovery process, stages of change, relapse prevention, treatment approaches, group dynamics and other adjunctive treatment recovery support groups, motivation interviewing, and models and theories of addiction
- Ethics, Rules, and Regulations
- Professional Identify in the provision of substance abuse services behavior
- Crisis intervention
- Substance Abuse counseling treatment, planning and research
- Counseling skills for individual and group, motivation interviewing
- Cultural factors and competencies in addiction
- Co-occurring disorders in interdisciplinary treatment
- Diagnostic and screening criteria in addictions
- Psychopharmacology resources in treatment of addictions
Additional Requirements
Applicants must take both CRIS 606 Acute Stress, Grief and Trauma and ADCN 606 Pharmacology of Addiction and Recovery.
