Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC)
Connecticut requires that applicants for this licensure have a master’s degree or higher advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education with 360 hours of education, at least 240 of which pertained to alcohol and drug abuse, while the remaining hours must have been in the field of human behavior.
Required areas and minimum hours related to alcohol and drug abuse:
- Pharmacology (3 credit hours)
- Assessment and treatment planning (3 credit hours)
- Cross-cultural, special population and ethnically diverse groups (3 credit hours)
- Ethics (3 credit hours)
- HIV – AIDS (3 credit hours)
Additional Requirements
Applicants must take ADCN 606 Pharmacology of Addiction and Recovery as an elective.
