ENGin is looking for fluent English speakers to video chat with Ukrainians. This is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a huge impact while discovering a new culture and meeting a new friend!
We’ll pair you up with a student to video chat with each week at times that are convenient for you. No teaching experience or knowledge of Ukrainian is required. All of our students can understand and hold a basic conversation in English.
Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 10-12 weeks. We provide training, support, and comprehensive session plans to guide your conversations.

June 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. We are seeking team members to serve on our security and logistical teams for the annual homeschool convention. Roles include:
– Provide a presence and assist our attendees in navigating the convention.
– Provide a roaming presence to be of assistance where needed.
– Provide Exhibit Hall security to ensure that only those who are participants enter into the Exhibit Hall.
– Provide children’s program security for check-in and check-out.
– Provide assistance in helping graduation guests enter the ballroom at the right time.

Wednesday the 5th consists of loading a truck from our home office in Richmond to supply the convention. Thursday the 6th begins at 0700 with load-in of the exhibit hall vendors for a 1700 convention opening. Door security begins at 1700 and ends at 2000. Friday the 7th begins at 0800 with door security and being an assistive presence and ends at 2100. Saturday the 8th begins at 0700 with door security and being an assistive presence and ends with load-out of the exhibit hall and convention center usually finishing around 2300.

This summer in the months of June and July, the Curriculum Library will be conducting a summer story time for the LU and Lynchburg community, once a week on Thursday mornings (except during the first week in July, which will occur on Tuesday, July 2) in the Jerry Falwell Library. This is an excellent opportunity for students in the School of Education or FACS Early Childhood programs. Yet, students from any programs and departments are welcome to apply.
Serving will involve approximately 2.5-3 hours each week between May 28-July 26 assisting with the following:
– Assisting the Curriculum Library personnel in the preparatory activities before the story times (JFL provides all supplies, guidance, and equipment) including planning and preparing craft activities (cutting, gluing, stapling, etc.) and
– Assisting on the day of story time by preparing the story time area (signs, chairs), setting up materials on the craft tables before attending families arrive, interacting with families inside the library, and tidying up after the program.
Students must be available on Thursday mornings (except during the first week in July, which will occur on Tuesday, July 2, instead of the July 4th holiday) from 9:30 AM-12:00 PM in June and July for the story time program. Assisting with the preparation times (of four plus hours) will have flexible hours. This is an opportunity for up to 3 volunteers.

The National D-Day Memorial is looking for students to serve as volunteer walking tour guides, Education Hut monitors, gift shop associates, grounds/Landscaping assistants, and event volunteers for the 80th Anniversary!
The National D-Day Memorial is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational foundation warranted by the US Congress to establish, in Bedford, Virginia, and maintain for the nation, a memorial to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of the Allied Armed Forces who landed in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944.
The monument (approximately 8.5 acres in area) is situated on an 88-acre site on the highest crest in the City of Bedford, Virginia. The monument is located at 3 Overlord Circle, near the interchange of State Routes 460 Bypass and 122. It is a short 20-minute car drive from the LU campus. The 80th Anniversary will be this coming June 6th. We anticipate a large crowd and need your help making this event a success.
The Normandy Invasion began on June 6th, 1944. This pivotal moment allowed the Allies to gain a foothold in Europe, a crucial turning point in World War II. The stakes were so great, the impact so monumental, that this single day stands out in history. Join us in remembering the sacrifice made that day. The 80th Anniversary will take place this June 6th! We will be having a large ceremony on June 6th, with various events all weekend. Volunteer opportunities include grounds, handing out programs, greeting visitors, assisting with parking, helping during concerts, and more!

Camp Fantastic 2024 (August 4 – August 10)
Camp Fantastic is a week-long adventure for cancer patients and survivors ages 7-17 who are within 5 years of treatment (or within 7 years of a bone marrow transplant). This camp is located in Front Royal, VA. Medical care is provided on-site so campers can focus on fun – a ropes course, canoeing, swimming, cooking, sports, and more! Teens have exclusive lodging and programming, and 16 and 17-year-olds can participate in our LIT (leaders in training) group.
Special Love is looking for volunteers to apply to be counselors at Camp Fantastic! Counselors will:
– Lead (or help) with crafts, games, hikes, and other skill-learning activities
– Supervise and take responsibility for campers in their room/group & team
– Assist with meal times, flag raising/lowering, and other daily rituals

Poplar Forest is preparing to remove the existing exterior paint from all of the woodwork and repaint it with a traditional linseed oil paint. The paint stripping process will involve infrared lamps and steamers to loosen the paint which will then be scraped away. This will be the primary work for this spring-fall. If the weather does not permit work outside, there are always conservation tasks inside which can be completed.
Those who are comfortable working from scaffolding will be provided the appropriate PPE and those who would prefer a more secure location can work on the roof which is enclosed by a balustrade and Chinese railing (fences). Depending on the project’s schedule, we may also be working on the decks to remove paint as well.

We are a Children’s Interactive Museum with different floors of interactive learning and play, including an indoor tower system! The Progressive Release program provides services to those suffering incarceration. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with an in-jail life skills program (must be approved by jail authority) and light office work such as database data entry and filing.

Description
We are assembling a team that will contribute to the Manumission Project. Manumission refers to the voluntary freeing of slaves, and this research is compiling data on manumissions that took place in Virginia between 1782 and 1865. Each manumission was accompanied by a written document filed at one of over 100 Virginia county or city courthouses. The Manumission Project is systematically compiling, cataloging, transcribing, and publishing these “freedom documents” in a publicly searchable online database. These documents shed light on this often overlooked portion of Virginia history, broadening our understanding of the motivations of manumitters, the struggles of the free African American population, and the nuance of race relations prior to the end of the Civil War. The Manumission Project is a research project sponsored by the Helms School of Government and the Jerry Falwell Library.
If you are interested in this opportunity, we will have multiple research tasks and workshops available. Each student participant should plan to attend 9 workshops within the semester to fulfill their CSER commitment. We will offer approximately 40 workshops on a variety of dates and times throughout the semester to allow students flexible opportunities to participate in the project. A workshop will last about 2 hours.

Work available with middle school, junior Varsity, and Varsity players. Practices are Monday & Thursday 4-7p, Tuesday & Friday 7-9p (the teams are further broken down with specific practice times in these time windows.) Games begin in November and run through a tournament in Gatlinburg, TN (March 4-8, 2024). Forty CSER hours can be fulfilled at the tournament. All transportation and lodging will be covered for away games and tournaments.
Boys Team
Developmental Coaches (3):
– Volunteer as Head Coach (1) or Assistant Coach (2) for LHSAA (Lynchburg Patriots) boys’ developmental basketball team.
The team is made up of boys in 4th-6th grades.
– Plan and execute practices 1-2 times per week.
– Practices are in the evenings (not Wednesdays).
– Coach at games on Saturday mornings starting in January and running through early March.
– No out-of-town travel required.
Photography:
– Take photos at home/local boys’ basketball games, events, fundraisers, etc. for LHSAA (Lynchburg Patriots) teams.
– Post photos on social media platforms.
– Create a slideshow of photos from throughout the season to be shared at end-of-year events.

SP Worship Team
To partner with God to create presence-centered atmospheres conducive to worship where people can encounter God. ( The leadership will work in conjunction with the Senior Leader to audition for certain positions. )
SP Production Team
This team is assembled to assist the atmosphere of worship at Weekend services and events to capture God’s heart through the gift of technical, audio, and visual elements. While serving in the background, they bring the gospel to life for all audiences, in person and online.
Discover (Infants through 5th grade)
Discover is an environment for infants through 5th grade. It breaks age groups into smaller crowds for more personal and intimate ministry through bible stories, crafts, and games.
Impact (1st grade-6th grade)
The impact is an environment for our 1st through 6th graders. This is a large group setting that focuses on high-energy fun to engage students through Bible Stories and games.
SP Kids Team
The team member creates an environment where children ages infant-6th grade are consistently exposed to the real love of Jesus. This intentionally invests in the lives of our children.
SP Youth Team
The goal of this team is to create environments for students in 7th grade through 12th grade to connect to God, connect with others, and begin to lead. You will join a team preparing the next generation of leaders.
SP Admin Team
Members of the team will use their administrative gifts to provide the foundational structure
necessary to support the success of the healthy growth of members. This area will maintain the database and implementations for 1st-time visitors, New memberships, and a 6-week Discipleship mentor program.
SP Event’s Team
This team creates wow factors through table set-up, decor display, food distribution, and behind-the-scenes prep while operating excellently to create a fun and distraction-free environment for every attendee. If you like creating centerpieces, setting up displays, serving food, or giveaways, this team is for you! Most events will occur on the weekends or during a Sunday service, each event will have different serve time requirements. This team will work in conjunction with the Hospitality Team.
SP Hospitality Team
This team is the first impression of SPM. Within this team are Hosts who are Greeters, Coffee
Hospitality, Ushers, and Information Booths. This team is guest-focused, loving on people, connecting with people, and making others feel at home. This team will work in conjunction with the Event’s Team.
SP Parking and Safety Team
This team serves as the first impression for those coming to SP by welcoming people on and off the property and providing a safe and efficient parking experience. Also, this team will provide an unseen hedge of protection, a secure church facility wherein the Gospel of Christ can be openly shared, where discipleship can thrive, and where people can grow into a personal relationship with Jesus and other believers without fear and minimal risks.
SP Support Serve Team
The Support Team will serve our congregation through pastoral care. The SPM Support Team will celebrate life with families and assist those facing hospitalizations, chronic illness, tragic circumstances, etc.
SP Prophetic Team
You will support the team during or after a service, special event, or Prophetic Ministry session on a weekend with others. Prophesy is Edifying, Comforting, and Exhorting the Body of Christ. You will be trained in calling out the greatness in a person and seeing the best. Mandatory training is required to lead or serve on this team at SPM.
SP Missions and Outreach Team
This vital team acts as the hands and feet of Christ outside our church walls by striving to meet the people’s felt needs in the community around us. The team members will go through the workshop for training and equipping and plan and lead areas of outreach within the community.
As an essential part of Soaring Place Place leadership family, we have a responsibility to develop and exhibit mature Christian behavior. WARRIOR CAMP Opportunity:
The Student(s) will creatively work on a Project like the following:
Creating and building an epic Presentation (i.e. PowerPoint, etc…) from a select book, for the purpose of imparting otherwise under-accessed, game-changing, and God-honoring Truth to this generation, and for equipping this generation in fulfillment of 1 Peter 3:15. Goals for this Project involve winsomely equipping this generation in one or more of the following: the truth of our awesome God, a topic of importance to Christian apologetics, and training up a generation after His own heart. These Presentations should be Top-Tier in all areas, including graphics, embedded media, and communicated content. Potential select books include ‘Icons of Evolution’ by Jonathan Wells, ‘Tactics’ by Gregory Koukl, and ‘A Practical Guide to Culture’ by Stonestreet and Kunkle. Other topics are likely to include the supremacy of Christ, answers to The Big Questions, false idols, and their tragic costs, and compelling evidence for The Christian Faith. If desirable to the Student, this Project can also entail the creation of short videos that can be integrated into the Presentation.
Creating Short videos on topics of significance to Christian apologetics, our witness for Christ, cultural engagement, and more. Content related to these themes, scripts, or directions, may be provided to the extent helpful. Final videos may be shared on social media accounts, via webpages, and/or used in fulfillment of Biblical objectives.
This CSER opportunity can be completed remotely and personal initiative and self-starting drive is encouraged.
Communication, collaboration, and direction between the Student and the Supervisor will likely take place via email, text, and/or a video-oriented app, such as Glide, WhatsApp, or Marco Polo. (Marco Polo will likely be preferred). The Student will need to have the selected app on his phone and be reasonably accessible, communicative, and responsive.
Given that Warrior Camp is a ministry passionate about Biblical masculinity, a male student is preferred.
If the student finishes one project and has not yet worked for 20 hours, then additional projects can be started.
Additional video projects may be available moving forward and in ongoing opportunities.
The Goal: Impact for God’s glory in this generation through epic media!

All of the raw video content is already recorded and in hand. (This will be sent to the Student(s) via a physical flash drive or via online file transfer).
The ideal Student is skilled/gifted and passionate for video editing, as well as having access to the necessary, capable video editing software. (Some of this software may be accessible via Liberty University for students enrolled in a videography-related degree program. Student(s) who are studying videography, or who have skill and passion for video, may be the perfect candidate).

Swim To Work Program (April 8- May 22, 2024)
– Mondays & Wednesdays from 3:30 pm-6 pm
STW is a six-week training course, where participants will complete the lifeguard certification process. Course training materials include CPR, First Aid, AED, and water safety. Additionally, students will gain valuable life skills while being mentored by a certified lifeguard and experienced trainer. After the students complete the process, they will be ready to apply for a lifeguard job anywhere.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the day-to-day operations and activities.
Leaders Club Program
Every Wednesday from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm
Tomorrow’s Leaders is a year-long initiative, rooted within the YMCA, aimed at nurturing leadership skills in middle and high school teens. Through this program, participants engage in leadership training and gain valuable hands-on experience through volunteer opportunities, actively contributing to the enhancement of community services.
Volunteers will help students engage and complete day-to-day activities.
Youth and Government (November-May)
Youth and Government™ is a teen program that introduces teens to speech and debate and how it can be used to transform their community. The high school program allows teens to represent the YMCA when it comes to bringing positive change to the Y’s footprint. Throughout the year, the teens get to research policies and laws set in the state that impact fellow youth, teens, and families. In the spring, the teens have the opportunity to bring a mock bill or amendment to the Virginia Capital at Model General Assembly (MGA). MGA is operated like the legislative system. Teens serve as delegates, senators, lobbyists, elected officers, and more.
