Due to COVID-19 and the increased need for social distancing, CSER credit may be approved for remote/virtual service activities. In addition to the following guidelines, these opportunities must adhere to the CSER Policy Handbooks. Any CSER-approved organization may offer remote/virtual service activities. However, we have listed a few organizations that are definitely providing remote/virtual activities. Organizations that are not CSER-approved should contact LU Serve for approval.

Remote/virtual CSERs may include “work-from-home” activities such as videography, photography, web development and design, written publications, online tutoring, online prayer ministry, calling seniors and vulnerable populations, and other administrative tasks.
CSER volunteers are not permitted to offer any professional services (e.g. counseling, telemedicine, etc.).
CSER supervisors must inform students in writing about the specific activities to be performed in the remote/virtual environment. Students must agree to these activities in writing and provide a copy of their activities in the CSER evaluation form.
Per standard CSER policy, students must serve at least 20 hours for one CSER credit and at least 40 hours for two CSER credits. Each day and time a student serves, he or she must “check-in” and “check-out” with the CSER supervisor via written communication (i.e. text, email, chat, virtual time-stamp, etc.) by noting the start time and end time of service and a description of work performed during that period.
Supervisors must keep accurate logs of student hours that can be used to validate their service. Supervisors must retain these records and be able to produce them if requested by LU Serve.
Supervisors must inform each student in writing regarding required hardware (phone, computer, tablet, etc.) or software (platforms, applications, etc.) before the first day of service. If the student is unable to acquire these materials, he or she is permitted to drop the CSER and find another opportunity.
Professionalism & Reporting Procedures:
For Title IX issues, students are directed to follow proper reporting procedures as outlined by the Office of Equity and Compliance.
