General Selection (Any Major)

Students within Behavioral Sciences have unique skills that enable them to serve the community like no other group of students. Whether focusing on Psychology or Social Work, there are plenty of opportunities for students to pour into local organizations that specialize in mental health and community development. Students can serve alongside faculty within the School of Behavioral Sciences or get involved in student government. There are many SGA clubs performing service projects, and there are organizations where students can work with young people and the elderly; such as Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Runk & Pratt, and many more.

Psychology

Psychology students should focus on serving in organizations whose focus in mental health. These organizations could include on-campus departments, or even SGA clubs such as the National Alliance of Mental Illnesses, Club Psych, & Council for Exceptional Children. Students can also serve in local churches such as TRBC’s special needs ministry.

Social Work

Through SGA clubs, students will have the opportunity to serve in an area related to social needs and community betterment. Clubs relevant to social work may include: Council for Exceptional Children, Social Work Club, Family and Child Development Association, Freedom 4/24, Habitat for Humanity, Help Save the Next Girl, & International Justice Mission. SGA clubs may be listed under CSER 311 or CSER 399 depending on their status.
