The following information reflects the 2019-2020 LU Send Faculty Travel Policies
LU Send Policies Updates
Excused Absence Requests
LU Send will no longer be accepting all excused absence requests.
Any excused absence that is more than 50-miles from campus, and/or requires an overnight stay, should be submitted to LU Send through the Faculty Gateway on the LU Send website. This is so that LU Send can ensure compliance for Cleary Act Reporting and necessary student Assumption of Risk forms.
Any excused absence that is less than 50 miles from campus and does NOT require an overnight stay should be sent to the department, school, or club administration issuing the absence. Department leadership will approve or deny the request, and compile all requests on to one spreadsheet template to be sent directly to the Provost’s office for final approval.
- Fall 2019 Excused Absence Deadline: September 6th, 2019
- Spring 2020 Excused Absence Deadline: February 7th, 2020
All excused absences requested will then be combined and sent to each Dean to disseminate out to faculty within 2 weeks of the submission deadline. Any request that is needed after the deadline will need Provost approval on a case-by-case basis.
International Faculty Travel: Non- Student
All faculty traveling internationally for university purposes must be registered with LU Send through the Faculty Gateway on the LU Send website. This is to ensure that proper insurance can be obtained for each individual traveler. Registration must be completed a minimum of 3 weeks before dates of travel.
Student International Travel: Non-Group Travel
All students traveling internationally for university purposes (not participating in pre-arranged LU Send group trip, study abroad or international internship experience) must be registered with LU Send through the LU Abroad portal on the LU Send website. This is to ensure that proper insurance can be obtained for each individual traveler. Registration must be completed a minimum of 3 weeks before dates of travel.
International Group Travel not related to University Travel
Any faculty member participating in international group travel opportunities that are not related to the University, but has Liberty University students attending (i.e. church mission trips) should disclose this information to LU Send no later than 3 weeks before travel. This short disclosure form can be found through the Faculty/Staff Resources portal on the LU Send website. In addition to registration, none of these international opportunities are to be presented or marketed to Liberty University students on campus without the expressed written permission of LU Send.
International Club Travel
It is the responsibility of each Club Faculty Advisor to seek pre-approval for any student club that is planning an international trip or marketing any international travel on Liberty University’s campus.
Short Term International Trip Proposals
LU Send is no longer accepting any 2019-2020 international student group travel proposals. Deadlines for the 20-21 academic year are as follows:
- Fall 2020 | October 1st, 2019
- Winter 2020/2021 | December 1st, 2019
- Spring 2021 | February 15th, 2020
- Summer 2021 | April 15th, 2020
