What Will You Learn in the Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy Degree?

Our Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy online degree program is designed to help ministry students for professional Christian Community Chaplaincy Ministry in secular, pluralistic settings such as the workplace, campus, sports, and first responder venues. In our M.Div. in Community Chaplaincy, we focus on setting foundations in exploring truth-claims of major world religions and the uniqueness of Christian theistic apologetics. Upon these basics, advanced hermeneutics on biblical interpretations and an examination of the current status of various interpretive approached to the Scriptures will be applied. Equipped with this, students will delve into the professional and spiritual formation of chaplain counseling and chaplain ministries as well as ethics for advisement and pastoral care. To complete the rewarding educational experience, students will have to conduct an internship. This experience will help intertwine your knowledge of the various components of community chaplaincy with practical hands-on experience.

Liberty University’s online Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy offers a thesis track, geared for students who plan to pursue a doctoral degree. The Doctor of Ministry is the recommended path for chaplaincy students interested in doctoral studies. Students not in interested in a doctoral degree, they should pursue a non-thesis track.

Admission Requirements 

Applicants must have a 2.0 or above cumulative combined GPA for all accredited colleges previously attended or for high school.   • Application fee*
  • School of Divinity Questionnaire
  • Pastoral Recommendation
  • Official college transcripts; if not available, submit a transcript request form.**
  • Proof of English proficiency

*There is no upfront application fee; however, a deferred $50 application fee will be assessed during financial check-in. This fee is waived for qualifying service members, veterans, and military spouses – documentation verifying military status is required.

**An official transcript is needed within 60 days of acceptance or before non-attendance drops for the first set of matriculated classes, whichever comes first.
