Course Description

During this course students will conduct their analysis, present their findings, comments, and recommendations, and prepare for final defense of their dissertation.

Rationale

Under the direction of a dissertation chair, the doctoral candidate writes a dissertation manuscript in preparation for the dissertation defense.

Discuss Progress Reports (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide progress report updates throughout the course. Each thread must be 500 words or more and be a specific and detailed update on the candidate's current progress on their dissertation. The candidate may discuss the process, frustrations, and issues found in the dissertation process. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 250 words or more. The chair will use the Discussion Grading Rubric to evaluate your participation for each post.  (CLO: A, B, C, D). 

Dissertation Submissions (4)

The candidate will complete 4 dissertation submissions during the course in order to demonstrate measurable progress. The dissertation will be submitted in the Canvas Apply section and may be reviewed informally by the chair for improvement over previous drafts. The chair will use a prgressive grading rubric to evaluate progress on the submission. If the manuscript is ready for a full formal review by the chair the candidate must email the chair requesting a full formal review of the manuscript. (CLO: C, D)

Dissertation Progress Measurement Rubric

In order to pass NURS 989, the candidate must earn at least 94 points on the Dissertation Progress Measurement rubric. If the candidate does not earn 94 points, he or she will receive a No Pass in NURS 989. (CLO: A, B, C, D)
