Community Health Practicum III – NURS 633

Course Description

This course completes community health practicum experience that continues to build on community focus to include community based management, formulates community goals and objectives, concentrating on evidence-based program planning while expanding population-oriented preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative models of care.

Rationale

To prepare graduates for practice as a Master’s prepared community health nurse within the community setting based on the synthesis and application of content from previous graduate nursing coursework and a practicum experience designed to obtain/expand a defined knowledge base and nursing expertise within a specific area of advanced clinical practice in a community setting.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview. 

Discussions (2)

The discussions are designed to promote discussion among class participants and provide an environment to exchange ideas and comments based on the readings, assignments and personal/professional experiences.  Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words. Each thread and each reply must be supported with at least 2 citations in current APA format.

For this assignment, students will explore program evaluation, considering why program plan evaluation is essential; the various models of evaluation; and the relationship of evaluation to the community assessment and program planning.   

For this assignment, students will explore the Community Toolbox and complete and evaluation tool for the community health program. 

For this assignment, students will reflect on the assigned reading and the role of the evaluator of a program plan; creating an evaluation report for the community health program plan via voice-over PowerPoint. 

For this assignment, students will write an exemplar that pertains to a practicum experience had in the program, related it to the domains of nursing, and discussing the experience's impact on future nursing practice.   

For this assignment, students will disseminate their practicum work via a presentation platform, considering social marketing.     

Students must complete the clinical portion of the class in order to pass the course.  This includes written documentation of the clinical experience by completion of the required practicum hours (75 hours)

As part of the requirements for all practicum courses, the MSN student is required to complete a portfolio that highlights components of his/her coursework, special projects, and practicum experiences. This portfolio is to be created using Typhon Portfolio and is available for the instructor’s review. This assignment will be be completed in three parts:  Part 1 = NURS 631, Part 2 = NURS 632, and Part 3 = NURS 633.  Students will complete portfolio outline sections II and III for NURS 632.
