Course Description

This is the capstone course for the RN–BSN program. The student engages in academic endeavors that reflect application, synthesis and evaluation of concepts and nursing issues studied throughout the completion program. Application of educational experience to professional growth and contribution to the nursing profession is emphasized.

Rationale

The completion of BSN coursework serves as a milestone in the student’s professional life. The capstone course provides the student with an opportunity to reflect on knowledge and experience gained during the educational process. The course will provide the student with practical knowledge of how to improve oneself professionally, as well as the profession as a whole.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. Each thread must be supported with at least 2 scholarly citations published within the last 5 years in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words, must incorporate at least 2 scholarly citations published within the last 5 years in current APA format, and no direct quotes are permitted. Inclusion of a biblical worldview is required for both the thread and replies.

Capstone Project: Impact of Nursing Theory

Impacting the Profession Assignment: Nursing Practice must be guided by Nursing Theory, evidence-based practice research, and nursing leaders who understand the external forces that impact the profession and patient care. This assignment allows the student to learn nursing theories, reflect on the impact of his/her worldview, assess external factors impacting professional practice and to create a document for possible publication with the Journal of Christian Nursing or other such professional journal. This information must be compiled in a minimum 1300 word Microsoft Word document in current APA format. The student must use a minimum of 5 scholarly sources published within the last 5 years and include a reference page. The title page and reference page do not count toward the required length.

Impacting my Practice Assignment: The key to improving the Nursing Profession is through the improvement of each individual nurse’s practice through the use of theory and research. This assignment will allow the student to apply Nursing Theory to his/her personal practice as well as consider how theory and research impact patient outcomes. The student will also create a plan of action to improve his/her practice with insight from a chosen Nursing Theory and the literature the student reviews. This presentation must be at least 15 minute audio-recorded presentation using PowerPoint, SmartCast, or YouTube, include 5  scholarly journal articles published within the last 5 years, and be submitted with a reference page in current APA format. 

Spiritual Care for All Patients

The patient population is as diverse as the community. And in a world that is growing smaller and more mobile, the diversity in the communities continues to alter. As professional nurses, it is necessary to learn about the community so the nurse can better care for the patients. As discovered, nurses must offer holistic care, which includes Spiritual Care. This paper allows the student to consider the art of Spiritual Caring and how nurses, especially Christian Nurses, are required to offer spiritual care to all patients. The student will have the opportunity to apply his/her knowledge and experience as it relates to patients of diverse beliefs, cultures, and backgrounds as they face life crises.

Christian Leadership in Nursing Presentation

Understanding the role as a leader is important to personal and professional success. As a nurse, one is a leader, but how the nurse leads is up to him/her. This assignment will allow the student to consider the role of the Christian Nurse Leader as well as his/her personal leadership traits/styles.

The student will create a 15 minute audio-recorded presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint, SmartCast, or YouTube. There must be at least 15 slides with notes provided for each slide, and the presentation must be supported by 5 scholarly sources published within the last 5 years, with a current APA reference page. 

Reflection Paper

The student will reflect on his/her past nursing experience at Liberty University and begin looking to the future. The paper must be at least 3 pages and supported by 3 citations in current APA format. No more than one direct quote is permitted in this assignment.

Final Survey

The student will complete the Final Survey during the last Module: Week. This survey provides feedback related to the RN-BSN program in a multiple-choice, short answer, or Likert question format.
