Rationale
The student will be exposed to the inter-relatedness of environmental and human health issues, as well as the complexities of environmental exposures. This course will be helpful for the student who wishes to serve in the environmental health context, as well as the student interested in increasing his/her awareness of global and local environmental challenges. Proper management of environmental exposure is essential, both in densely populated urban areas and in lesser economically developed countries. This course will give the student the basic knowledge and tools to address these fundamental principles of toxicology.

Discussions (3)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread of at least 400 words in response to the provided prompt for each discussion and must support their assertions with at least one scholarly source in AMA format and one scriptural reference. The student must then reply to 2 other classmates’ threads using at least 200 words. Provide the classmates with resources that challenge or affirm the posts, and encourage the classmates with scripture. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E, F)
Article Review Assignments (2)
The student will review the major points of an article. This is an individual assignment involving the review of the major points of a case study or article. The student is expected to provide suggestions to address the problem in the case study or article. The article review must be 450-600 words, excluding title or reference pages, and be in proper AMA format. The article must use 1 peer-reviewed article to support the student’s opinions. Short Essay Assignments (2)
The student is required to respond to a topic provided by the course instructor. Both essays should be 200–250 words in current AMA format and cite the peer-reviewed article presented in the Module: Week as well as one of the course texts. (CLOs: B, C, D, E, F)
Research Paper: Assignments (4)
Topic Submission Assignment
The student will select a specific topic for the Research Paper. The topic selection will be submitted to the instructor for approval. The topic will be 1 sentence and include one properly cited scholarly reference in AMA format.
Outline Assignment
The student will create a detailed outline for the Final Submission of the Research Paper. The student must write a 1–2-page outline of the Research Paper.
References Assignment
The student will research at least 10, but no more than 15, peer-reviewed scholarly resources that are no more than 5 years old. The student will cite the resources in current AMA format.
Final Assignment
The student will write a 10–12-page research-based paper (page count does not include the abstract, reference, and cover page) in current AMA format that focuses on an approved topic. The paper must include at least 10 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E, F)
Quiz: Midterm
This quiz covers information from the assigned modules. It will be open-book/open-notes, contain 10 short answer questions, and have a 2-hour time limit. (CLOs: B, C, D, E)
