Course Description

Advanced study of the unique physical, social, psychological and cognitive development of children and adolescents. Developmental theories and research aimed at understanding the unique needs and stages in childhood and adolescence will be examined.

Rationale

This course is intended for doctoral level students to deepen their understanding of complex development that children and adolescents go through. The student will gain a greater understanding of the research involving healthy neurotypical development.

Discussions (5)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided topic for each discussion. Discussions that answer the question(s) presented must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the initial main post, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 250 words.

Research Proposal: Topic Submission Assignment

Research Proposal: Intent to Submit a Research Proposal Assignment

Oftentimes when researchers prepare a research grant, they are required to submit an Intent to Submit a Proposal before they submit their grant proposal. In this class, the student will prepare a 5 – 7 page Research Proposal: Intent to Submit a Research Proposal Assignment which will introduce the Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment that he/she will submit in Module 7: Week 7 of our class. Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment

The student will write a Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment on any topic related to child or adolescent development. The Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment paper must be at least 25 pages in length. The Research Proposal: Final Submission Assignment must include a literature review, problem statement, purpose statement, research questions, and a proposed methodology. Quizzes (2)

Each quiz will cover the Learn section for the assigned modules. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain essay questions, and have a 2 hour and 30 minute time limit.
