Course Description

This course addresses the skills and knowledge necessary for completion of a quantitative dissertation, including research design, analysis, and associated statistical procedures. This course also addresses sampling, assumptions, data interpretation, validity, reliability, and instrumentation.

Rationale

The doctoral dissertation is the final academic requirement for the PhD in Nursing. This course is designed to equip the candidate with a deeper understanding of developing a research plan to equip them for a doctoral dissertation using quantitative approach.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate will complete 3 Discussions in this course. The student will post 1 thread of at least 400–500 words. Research Plan: Topic Selection Assignment

The student will will create a paper on chosen topic for research and submit for instructor feedback. This must be 10-15 pages and include at least 10 references in current APA format. (CLO: A, B)

Research Plan: Choosing the Methodology Assignment

The student will choose a Methodology to investigate their proposed topic for research and submit for instructor feedback. This must be 10-15 pages and include at least 10 references in current APA format. (CLO: A, B, C)

Article Critique: Methodology in Publications Assignment

The student will critique a peer-reviewed article in general with particular attention to the methodology section. Write a paper approximately 9-10 pages long excluding the title page, references, and appendices, in current APA format. (CLO: A, C)

Journal Cover Letter Assignment

The student will draft a cover letter to the editor of a journal chosen for publication (CLO: E)

Requesting Permissions to Use a Research Instrument Assignment

The candidate will identify a research instrument appropriate for his/her research topic and draft a letter to the author. (CLO: B, C)

The candidate will complete training modules via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program. Upon completion of all modules, the candidate will receive a certification and transcript of individual module scores. Upload the transcript of module scores to Canvas for a grade.
