This course is designed for students who desire to develop skills in the areas of leadership and management who plan to utilize their selected area of advanced practice and knowledge as nurse leaders within healthcare organizations. Students will investigate content areas that will build knowledge and expertise in working with systems theories, high performing work teams, information systems, change theories and theories of organizational behavior. Leadership styles and innovations styles will be explored.

In a complex healthcare environment, the nurse administrator needs to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities that support an environment of excellence and safety for patients, families, and staff. This course provides an overview of the concepts that will serve as a foundation for building these skills.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words and be cited using current APA format.
Workplace Culture in Nursing Assignment
The student will write a 3 – 4-page paper articulating the workplace culture of nursing. This narrative should include concepts related to a healthy workplace environment, the use of power and influence in nursing, and the role that the nurse leader plays within the complex environment of healthcare. The student must cite 3 – 5 scholarly sources in addition to the course textbooks.
Strategic Planning for Nurse Leaders Assignment
The student will write a 5 – 7 page paper regarding the essential components of strategic planning and the impact of strategic planning on patient outcomes within healthcare. The student must cite 5 – 7 scholarly sources in addition to the course textbooks.
Creating and Sustaining Teams Assignment
After completing the assigned reading, the student will write a 4 – 6 page paper highlighting his/her personal experience with teams and teamwork in order to achieve improved patient outcomes. The student must cite 4 – 6 scholarly sources in addition to the course textbooks.
Leading through Serving: The Christian Nurse Leader Assignment
The student will write a 10 page research-oriented paper in current APA format that focuses on servant leadership. The paper must include at least 8 – 10 scholarly sources in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. This assignment will explore the impact of the Christian Worldview on nursing leaders and their leadership practice.
Professional Practice Model Assignment
The student will write a 5 – 7-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on developing a professional practice model (PPM) for an organization in which the student might one day be a nurse leader or are currently a nurse leader. The student will create a schematic of his/her created model. The paper must include at least 5 – 7 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.
