Course Description

This course is designed to assist the registered nurse student through the transition between basic nursing preparation and a more advanced level of nursing practice. Focus is on concepts and issues related to the professional nurse, the nature and scope of professional nursing and selected theoretical models for nursing practice.

Rationale

The development of a theoretical basis for nursing practice is a hallmark of the education of baccalaureate-prepared nurses.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to at least 2 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words. Each thread and reply must incorporate at least 1 citation from a scholarly source (published within the last 5 years) and a citation from the text in current APA format.

You will be completing a profile/biography on Florence Nightingale. You will be including pertinent information from our textbook, as well as 2 other scholarly articles.

Nurse-Patient Relationship Chart Assignment

The student will complete a chart describing Nurse Patient Relationship theories and how each theory relates to practice. At least 1 reference must be included for each theory. Current APA format must be used.

Novice to Expert PowerPoint Assignment

The student will complete a PowerPoint presentation to show understanding of the Novice to Expert Model as explained by Patricia Benner.

Grand Theories on Caring Paper Assignment

The student will write a paper in current APA format examining Grand Theories on Caring. The paper must include at least 2 research article references (published within the last 5 years) and at least 2 Scripture references, along with the text for this class.
