Course Description

This course provides an overview of the nursing process including methodology, design and interpretation of findings. It focuses on acquiring the beginning knowledge and skills essential for critical evaluation of research reports as well as guidance in the production of a poster presentation which incorporates evidence-based knowledge related to a specific clinical problem.

Rationale

In order for nursing to progress as a discipline, it must be guided by research findings rather than intuition or tradition. This course prepares the student to be a knowledgeable research consumer as well as a research participant.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be a minimum of 350 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include a minimum of 1 textbook citation and 1 peer-reviewed resource (published within that last 5 years) citation. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Evidence-based Practice: Knowing the Terminology

The student will expand on a statement provided in the Evidence-based Practice Project: Knowing the Terminology Assignment from a exert from the Schmidt & Brown textbook. The must submit a 2 – 3-page APA style paper addressing the topic. A title page and list of references are needed and do not count toward the length requirement. In addition to the course textbook, an additional 2 – 3 current references (<5 years) are required.

Evidence-based Practice: Common Barriers

The student will expand on a statement that addresses Common Barriers as it related to evidence-based practice in the Evidence-based Practice Project: Common Barriers Assignment exert from the Schmidt & Brown textbook. The student must submit a 2 – 3-page APA style paper addressing the topic. A title page and list of references are needed and do not count toward the length requirement. In addition to the course textbook, an additional 2 – 3 current references (<5 years) are required.

Evidence-based Practice: Innovator

The student will expand on a statement that addresses what an innovators role in evidence-based practice and if inspired what is the pathway I must follow in the Evidence-based Practice Project: Innovator Assignment exert from the Schmidt & Brown textbook. The student must submit a 2 – 3-page APA style paper addressing the topic. A title page and list of references are needed and do not count toward the length requirement. In addition to the course textbook, an additional 2 – 3 current references (<5 years) are required.

Worldview Self-Reflection Paper Assignment

The theme of this paper is the Christian worldview and its potential to influence personal decisions regarding research participation, activities, and funding. The paper must be 750 – 1,000 words (3 – 4 pages), and the reference page must contain no less than 2 peer-reviewed resources (published within the last 5 years). This assignment must be in current APA format and include both a title page and a reference page. (BSN Essentials III 3; PLOs 5, 7; CLO E)
