Course Description

The focus of this course is on physiological changes resulting from imbalances in the man-environment interaction throughout the life span. The emphasis is on application of general concepts of adaptation and homeostasis to each of the body’s systems and on relationship of these concepts to the practice of clinical nursing. The course provides the student with a scientific knowledge base applicable to the more advanced clinical practice of nursing.

Rationale

The professional nurse is called upon to make patient care decisions based on interpretation and integration of physiological data. This course serves as an introduction to basic pathophysiologic mechanisms and manifestations of disease.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 300 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Research Paper Assignment

The student will write a 8-10 page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on the pathophysiology of a disease of interest. The disease chosen must be one covered in Modules/Weeks 1–8. The paper must include at least 5 peer-reviewed references (published within the last 5 years), including the course textbook. The Research Paper will be completed and submitted in 2 separate parts.  Measurable learning Outcomes:  A, B, C, D & E; PLOs:  1, 2, 3, 4, & 5; BSN Essentials: III, VI, VII, VIII, I

Part 1

For Part 1 of your Research Paper, choose a disease of interest covered in Modules 1-8: Weeks 1–8 of this course. You are encouraged to choose a topic that will impact your current practice. Create a title page and a reference page citing 5–7 peer-reviewed sources (published within the last 5 years), including the textbook, for instructor feedback. Current APA formatting must be used.

Part 2

For Part 2 of the Research Paper, the student will submit the 8-10 page body of the Research Paper. In addition to the 8-10 page main body of the paper, the Final Draft must include a title page and a reference page with 5–7 references, which the student previously corrected based on instructor feedback. Current APA formatting must be used in all parts of this assignment.

Although not required, the student may submit Part 2 to a SafeAssign draft link available if they would like to check your work for plagiarism.

Health Education Brochure Assignment

The student is required to submit a health education brochure. The disease chosen must be one covered in Modules 1-8: Weeks 1–8. The student must complete the assignment in current APA format and cite at least 5 peer-reviewed references (published within the last 10 years). Quizzes (4)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the Modules: Weeks in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice questions, and have a 2-hour time limit.
