Course Description

This course will introduce hardware, software, operating systems, and trouble-shooting. Students will learn basic skills in building and trouble-shooting computers, installing/configuring operating systems, and basic networking.

Rationale

CompTIA A+ is the entry-level certification into information technology career fields. This is the first certification the student earns when beginning a computer career. This course covers job retraining, veterans’ educational benefits, and provides the basic computer skills needed to become an IT professional.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are a collaborative learning experience. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum.

Each thread must be at least 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 1 other classmate’s threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words.

Quiz: Pre-Assessments (2)

Each Pre-Assessment is designed to demonstrate current content area knowledge and help the student know where to focus on the study activities. The student earns full credit for completing the assignment.

Quizzes (20)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the modules/weeks in which it is assigned. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes. The student may take each quiz as many times as necessary to earn maximum points. 

Labs (49)

Students will work on various labs throughout the course. These labs are designed to give hands on and interactive assessment and practice with the course materials. The idea is that these should help with A+ Certification prep with hands on learning. These allow unlimited attempts for maximum points.

Homework Assignments (12)

Students will complete homework assignments in Mindtap. These assignments are designed to assess your understand of the Modules reading. Students will have unlimited attempts for these assignments.

Quiz: Post-Assessments (2)

The student will complete 2 Assessments in preparation for the 1001 and 1002 certifications. Both Assessments allow for two attempts each and are not timed.
