Course Description

This course will provide students with an opportunity to further understand the physiological adaptations of the human body’s various systems that occur in response to specific exercise and sports performance training sessions.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to allow the student the opportunity to further understand how athletes respond to various training stressors and how individual variability exists between different types of athletes. The responses and adaptations of the body’s various systems due to the demands of training will be explored. This will provide the student with the necessary background information needed for the design of training programs for various types of aerobic and anaerobic sporting athletes and occupational athletes. This concentration course further emphasizes, in a strong applied manner, both acute and chronic physiological adaptations associated with exercise and sport specific training and the various impacts on multiple performance situations and scenarios.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be no less than 350 and no more than 750 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include 1 citation in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be no less than 250 words and no more than 600 words and include 1 citation in current APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last ten years. Acceptable sources include the course textbook, the Bible, and peer reviewed academic journals.

Case Study Essay Assignments (5)

Each student will be responsible for the completion of 5 Case Study Essays. The response for each Case Study Essay must be at least 3 full pages and no more than 5 full pages. The student must include at least two different citations in each essay, one of which must come from peer reviewed scholarly journals in human performance and sports science fields. Each Case Study Essay response must be double-spaced with 12-point, Times New Roman font, and each essay must be formatted according to current APA style guidelines.

Athletic Training Program Design Assignment

Each student will prepare a program design for a unique type of athlete. All variables of the sport specific training program will need to be addressed. The training program design must be no fewer than 8 and no more than 12 pages and double-spaced, with 12-point, Times New Roman font.
