Course Description

Extended field experience in a cross-cultural setting providing for the on-site application of skills. This course serves as the basis for field research for the master's thesis or project.

Rationale

The research process is a site experience in which the student demonstrates the practical application of learner outcomes. It provides field experience for doing research and demonstrating the potential for career service as an ethnomusicologist.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Apply the tools of the ethnomusicologist in practical ways to enhance vocational goals.
  2. Demonstrate skills of cultural (ethnographic) analysis through music.
  3. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in analyzing cultural values.
  4. Participate in cross-cultural experiences that provide self-evaluation and career direction.
  5. Collect materials related to the completion of the Master's Thesis or Project as appropriate.
  6. Articulate research findings based on field experience.
