Course Description

This course focuses on developing doctoral candidates' capstone project.

Prerequisites

EDUC 888

Rationale

Under the direction of a faculty mentor, the doctoral candidate writes a capstone project manuscript in preparation for the final presentation and submission.  

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the candidate will be able to:

  1. Describe the primary steps of the capstone research process
  2. Develop a timeline, semester goals, and write progress reports regarding his or her capstone project
  3. Execute research and analyze data
  4. Prepare for a capstone project presentation and final submission of the manuscript with the faculty mentor

Course Introduction

Discussion Board Forum Updates (4)

The candidate will post a progress report update in Weeks 1, 5, 10, and 15. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. The faculty mentor will assign a pass/no pass grade for each post. (MLO: A, B, C, D)

Capstone Submissions (4)

The candidate will complete four capstone submissions during the course in order to demonstrate measurable progress. The capstone project will be submitted in Blackboard and may be reviewed informally by the faculty mentor for improvement over previous drafts. The faculty mentor will assign a pass/no pass grade for the submission. If the manuscript is ready for a full formal review by the faculty mentor, the candidate should email the faculty mentor requesting a full formal review of the manuscript. (MLO: C, D)

Capstone Progress Measurement Rubric

In order to pass EDUC 889, the candidate must earn at least 6 points on the Progress Measurement Rubric. If the candidate does not earn 6 points, he or she will receive a No Pass in EDUC 889. (MLO: A, B, C, D)
