Course Description

This course investigates the importance of compliance in accreditation through understanding various programmatic, state, and national organizations and their requirements placed upon educational institutions. Compliance involves a thorough understanding of those requirements along with the ability to record, articulate, and submit regular reports documenting institutional compliance. Plans and processes for how to analyze and interpret assessment results will be used for program and institutional improvement. Best practices in compliance and report writing will be reviewed, examined, and applied.

Rationale

Educational institutions are required to adhere to programmatic, state, and/or national accreditors. Practitioners in the field need to develop a culture of accreditation and compliance at their institutions through collaboration, communication, and best practices. This course serves as an applicable and practical overview of skills needed to get institutions in compliance and keep them in compliance through institutional culture and report writing.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 400 words, contain at least two peer-reviewed references, and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 250 words and contain at least one reference to the course material in current APA format. (CLO: A, B, D)

Standards Compliance and Writing Assignments (3)

The candidate will review and analyze the compliance of an institution with a specific accreditation standard through the institution's report writing. Insitutions are required to make public their compliance with certain standards which can be found on their official website. The candidate can select their own standard, or use the one provided based upon assignment criteria, and will write a 2-3 page paper about what they reviewed and learned through the process. Quality Enhancement Plan Report Assignments (4)

Through a four-part assignment, the candidate will review the requirements of developing an institution-wide Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and then design a fictional QEP for approval and implementation. The candidate will select a relevant topic, determine stakeholders, develop a culture of compliance plan, and prepare a final report for submission to a regional accrediting agency. The first three parts should be 1 – 2 pages, double-spaced, and include a current APA formatted title and reference page. Part four should be 3–4 pages and follow the same format. Accreditation Article Critique Assignments (3)

For these assignments, the candidate will critically review 1 peer-reviewed article assigned in the corresponding module. The candidate will pay particular attention to identifying the premise and supporting points of the article, a synthesis of the article, and a critical evaluation of the premise(s) and supporting points of the article. Each review must be 3-4 pages and demonstrate professional writing in current APA formatting. (CLO: A, C)
