Practicum in Education III: External – EDUC 388

Course Description

Candidates will participate in a supervised 30-hour field practicum designed to link theory with practice. This practicum may only be repeated one time with prior approval from the program chair. Completion of at least 30 hours is required in order to pass the practicum course.

Rationale

The candidate is required to engage in developmental and sequential field experiences throughout his/her program. The candidate will complete practicum experiences that correspond to the corequisite course identified in the candidate’s degree completion plan. The candidate will assist in the classroom as well as teach one or more formal lessons.

Field Experience: Part 1 – Planning Your Field Experience Assignment

The candidate will make a plan to complete the practicum requirements. (CLO: E)

Field Experience: Part 2 – Self-Monitoring Assignment

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the practicum. (CLO: E)

Field Experience: Part 3 – Pre-SCRIP Self-Assessment Assignment

The candidate will reflect on the SOE SCRIP dispositions to rate their performance on the SCRIP dispositions during the practicum. The candidate will write a justification (3-5 sentences) with specific examples (minimum of 3) to support the rating given for each disposition. (CLO: C, D)

Field Experience: Part 4 – Self-Monitoring Assignment

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the practicum. (CLO: E)

Field Experience: Part 6 – Pre-CPAST Self-Assessment Assignment

The candidate will use the Pre-CPAST assignment to reflect upon the overall practicum experience, including the lesson presentation. (CLO: B, C)

The candidate’s performance will be evaluated during practicum using the Pre-CPAST Assessment. (CLO: A, C)

The candidate will provide documentation of completion all practicum requirements. (CLO: A)

The candidate will submit the final practicum assignment. (CLO: C)

After reviewing the information related to this practicum, the candidate’s co-requisite course, and the alternative route for students that do not secure a practicum placement, the candidate will complete an acknowledgment quiz. After submitting the practicum placement request, the candidate will complete the practicum request quiz. This quiz will covers the Learn material for the assigned module: week. This quiz will covers the Mapping Out Your Field Experiences information. This quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain  5 multiple choice and true/false questions, and will have a 60-minute time limit. (CLO: E).

Quiz: Practicum Expectations
