Course Description

This course assists candidates in completion of their dissertation data collection and analysis (Chapter 4) under the supervision of a dissertation chair and committee.

For information regarding prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.

Rationale

Under the direction of a dissertation chair, the doctoral candidate writes a dissertation proposal in alignment with the most current Dissertation Handbook. The development of the proposal is in preparation for the dissertation proposal defense, which is the culminating assignment for this course.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the candidate will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussion: Progress Reports (15)

Discussions are collaborative experiences, therefore the candidate will submit weekly progress reports throughout the course. For each discussion, the candidate will write a short, informal thread detailing their work up to the current module. The thread should be between 150 – 400 words. No peer replies are required for this assignment; however, the candidate is encouraged to read their peers’ threads and provide encouragement to build community.

Resubmission: Task 3: Applied Doctoral Research Proposal Defense Assignment

As part of this course’s documentation requirements, the candidate will resubmit the final task required in their previous course. The candidate must upload and submit the file they submitted in EDUC 987 for the indicated task. Once they have submitted this assignment, the candidate may proceed with the tasks required for this course.

Doctoral Research Dissertation Tasks (2)

The candidate must locate the task they want to complete in the Assignments area of the course. They must then review the information concerning the task in the Doctoral Programs Dissertation Handbook located in the SOE Doctoral Community. After the candidate has completed the task according to the task's requirements, they will submit it to Canvas. After the task is submitted, the faculty member will review the completed task and provide feedback. The candidate must review the faculty member’s feedback and make any necessary adjustments to the task. The candidate is required to resubmit the task in Canvas until the faculty member approves the task. Upon faculty member approval, the candidate receives full credit on the task assignment.
