Rationale

In the 21st century, there are a vast number of types of musical ensembles. This innovative music ensemble will allow students the flexibility to participate in commercial music groups of various instrumentations playing music in a variety of musical styles. These will often take the form of a contemporary band (vocal, guitar, keys, bass, drums) but may include other formats approved by the instructor.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Student must describe the ensemble, either existing or new, in which they plan to participate for this course.

Student must submit either a video of the whole ensemble rehearsing or individual videos of each proposed member of the ensemble rehearsing on the instrument or vocal part on which they will perform for the ensemble.

Student must submit a list of songs or pieces of music to be covered for the semester.

Each student will rehearse regularly, contribute ideas in rehearsal, perform music well in rehearsal, and contribute to the success of the group. Videos of rehearsals are uploaded weekly to the learning management system. The faculty member evaluates these videos, provides the student with feedback and coaching, and posts a grade in the learning management system.

The student will upload the ensemble’s final performance to the learning management system. The faculty member evaluates this video, provides the student with feedback, and posts a grade in the learning management system.
