Course Description

Applications are processed through the department Faculty Intern Advisor. Applicants must apply the semester prior to starting the internship.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to facilitate learning in the major/minor and to define career goals.  Students will make intellectual connections between course work and on the job assignments.  They can secure job contacts for potential future employment, obtain practical experience to build their resume, and thereby increase their marketability.

After reading the Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Internship Log Assignments (2)

The student will maintain a running log of his or her internship hours and observations, which will be submitted twice during the internship.

Quiz: Student Internship Agreement Form Upload

The student will submit a copy of his or her approved Student Internship Agreement Form to inform the instructor of the intended site.

Discussion: Professional Introduction

The student will submit a 250-word thread demonstrating course-related knowledge in each forum. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to the threads of at least 2 other students. Each reply must be 150 words.

Introductory Email Assignment

The student will introduce his/her supervisor to the instructor by sending one email to both the supervisor and instructor that professionally introduces one to the other. This email must include contact information for both parties. The student will then submit a copy of the email in Canvas.

Internship Summary Assignments (3)

The student will reflect, as a whole, on a large scale, on his/her internship experience at each point and to give him/her an opportunity to tie together what he/she is learning with his/her real life experience and career goals. This 3-4 page paper must be in current APA format.

Training Opportunities Assignment

The student will create a list of relevant training opportunities that exist within the community, organization or online. The list will focus on a specific training need, will consist of at least 5-10 training opportunities, and will be presented in a professional format.

Quiz: Supervisor Evaluation Assignment

The student will submit 3 evaluations completed by the site supervisor. After the supervisor has completed and discussed the evaluation, the student will submit a copy of the evaluation to Canvas.

Plan for Growth Essay Assignment

The student will write a 200-400 word essay that outlines his/her plan for growth midway through the internship experience, and after receiving the first supervisor evaluation. 

Letter to Supervisor Assignment

The student will construct a letter of appreciation to his or her site supervisor.

Resume Assignments (2)

The student will complete a Resume Draft and Final Resume after receiving feedback. 

Quiz: Developing a Professional Resume

The student will complete a quiz after viewing a Resume Presentation from a Career Center representative.
