Rationale

This course is part of the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) curriculum program. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge in retirement planning to be able to incorporate these concepts into a client’s complete and comprehensive financial plan.

Course Assignment

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to a provided topic. The thread must be at least 350 words and integrate information drawn from experience and course-related information (books, articles, and presentations). In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 250 words and integrate information drawn from experience and course-related information (books, articles, and presentations). There will be four (4) Discussions throughout this course.

The student will answer multiple discussion questions found at the end of chapter(s) (EOC).

There are 2 short Mini-Case Retirement Scenarios in the course. These assignments are from the textbook and cover various aspects of a financial plan such as: financial situation analysis, taxes, insurance, investments, retirement, and estate planning. These Mini-Case Studies have varying length requirements, but both must be typed, double-spaced, use 12-point Times New Roman font. Major points should be supported by the textbook and at least 1 article (at least 2 citations in current APA format are required), good examples (pertinent, conceptual, or personal examples are acceptable), and thoughtful analysis.

Using the case study information, the student is required to complete the Comprehensive Retirement Plan for the case from the textbook.

The student is required to create both a PowerPoint presentation of the Comprehensive Retirement Plan and record the presentation of the financial plan as if the client was present. In a real-life situation, the PowerPoint would be used to present the plan to the client. The audio recording should be embedded in the PowerPoint presentation. The presentation must be professional and written in a format that can be easily understood by the client, and the recording must correspond with the appropriate slides.

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module and will be open-book/open-note. Each of the 7 quizzes will be in a multiple choice and true/false format.

The Quiz: Comprehensive Retirement Planning will be open-book/open-notes, contain 100 multiple-choice, true/false, and matching questions, and have a 3-hour time limit (180 minutes). The exam will cover all topics covered throughout this course.
