Course Description

Practical application of knowledge under the supervision of a practicing artist or related professional approved by the internship coordinator for SADA. Application procedures processed through the Career Center. Must apply semester prior to internship.

Rationale

The internship is intended to be a unique experience that will allow the graduate student to work in an organization and apply some of the skills that have been learned throughout his/her academic training. The internship is geared toward “learning by doing.” Ideally, the graduate student will find the internship to be a valuable direct or indirect route to obtaining a full-time position in the field of art.

Textbook readings and lecture presentations

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to one other classmate’s thread. Each reply must be at least 75 words.

Journal Entry Assignments (7)

The student will use the template provided in Canvas to log journal entries based on his/her daily internship experience. Each daily entry must be at least 50 words. The student will submit 7 1-week logs during the term.

Supervisor Evaluation Assignments (2)

The student will have his/her supervisor complete a midterm and final evaluation of the student’s work using the provided evaluation form.

Student Evaluation of Supervisor and Organization/Company Assignment

The student will complete an evaluation of his/her experience with his/her supervisor and the partnering organization.
