Course Description

This course is set up as a working art and graphic design studio experience that will provide students with the vital experience, hands on working experience from conceptualization through production.

Prerequisites 

None

Rationale

The course offers the student the opportunity to gain practical experience in the specialization of art/design and to gain academic credit for his/her learning. Through personal development planning, the student will be encouraged to seek opportunities in organizations that are both appropriate to his/her needs and professional in their approach to clients and staff. Furthermore, this course will support the student in ensuring that these objectives are met as fully as possible.

Measurable Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. Apply art/design knowledge to a professional work environment.
    2. Engage in discussions to develop certain assignments.
    3. Demonstrate professional work practices.
    4. Develop a presentation over related practicum studies.

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.

Discussion Board Forums (2)

Discussion Boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. The thread must be at least 200 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 1 other classmate’s thread. The reply must be at least 75 words.

Proposal

The student will write at least 250 words detailing the work (deliverables) that he/she intends to generate for the course. The Proposal contents must clearly and concisely explain what the deliverables are, how the work supplements the student’s professional and academic goals, and the proposed timeline for development and completion.

Journal Entries (4)

The student will use the template provided in Blackboard to log Journal Entries based on his/her daily practicum experience. Each daily entry must be at least 75 words.

Midterm Supervisor Evaluation

The student will have his/her supervisor complete an evaluation of the student’s work using the provided evaluation form.

Midterm Deliverable

Using Adobe Spark, the student will submit a 2-minute video presentation of the body of work previously outlined in the Proposal for Module/Week 4. The student is required to submit a minimum of 10 images of his/her practicum work for the Midterm Deliverable.

Final Supervisor Evaluation

The student will have his/her supervisor complete an evaluation of the student’s work using the provided evaluation form.

Final Deliverable

Using Adobe Spark, the student will submit a 4-minute video presentation of the body of work previously outlined in the Proposal for Module/Week 8. The student is required to submit a minimum of 20 images of his/her practicum work for the Final Deliverable.
