Course Description

This course provides the basics of financial analysis and management for non-business majors. Topics in this course will include financial reporting, underlying accounting assumptions, performance measures, ratio analysis, cash flow, time value of money, and budgeting.

Rationale

The basics of financial analysis and management are important considerations for those in non-business related fields. While these other fields may not need the in-depth basics of financial accounting, managerial accounting, or finance, the ability to analyze financial statements and make useful business decisions are important considerations for all non-business majors.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. The student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be at least 400 words, contain at least 2 peer-reviewed references, and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words and include at least 2 peer-reviewed references.

Connect Plus Homework Assignments (8)

The student will be assigned homework to complete in Connect Plus. The Connect Plus access is provided within the course.

Excel Project Assignment

Given a fact situation, the student will prepare financial and pro-forma financial statements using Excel.

Faith Essay Assignment

The student will write an 800-word Faith Essay in current APA format that focuses on how biblical concepts are related to the fields of accounting and finance. The Faith Essay must include at least 3 peer-reviewed references.

Quizzes (8)

There will be 8 open-book/open-notes Reading Quizzes, which will contain 10 true/false and/or numeric questions. Each quiz will cover the materials for the module in which it is assigned. The student will have 45 minutes to complete each quiz.
