Failure for Non-Completion (FN) Policy

Failure for Non-Completion Policy

We encourage students to review LUOA’s student handbook. Students may receive a final grade of FN (Failure for Non-Completion) in the following situations:

  1. Inactivity in K-12 courses
A course is closed with a grade of FN if a student has started the course but remained inactive for 30 consecutive days or more. Prior to this, LUOA sends reminder emails after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days of inactivity.
  2. Inactivity in dual enrollment courses
A dual enrollment course is closed with an FN grade if a student has been inactive in the course for 21 days. Prior to this, students will have received an inactivity email from their professor after 7, 14, and 21 days of inactivity.
  3. Expiration of allotted time
A course is closed with an FN grade if, at the expiration of the course’s allotted time, the course has not been completed and an extension has not been requested and approved.

Students are given 22 weeks to complete a semester course and 41 weeks to complete a full-year course. Progress can be tracked in the Observation Deck in Canvas.

  4. Late withdrawal request
A course is closed with a grade of FN if the student requests a withdrawal in the last month of the course (non-dual enrollment courses only).
  5. Course Completion

All semester exams, module tests, and Tier 3 projects or papers must be completed, and the student must have fewer than 10 zeros per full-year course OR fewer than 5 zeros per semester course for blank submissions.

You may request a course extension, appeal a grade of FN, or review the student handbook for more information.
